The US film director David Fincher does not mourn the cinema after the triumph of streaming services like Netflix. "I know there are all sorts of crybabies lamenting the end of cinematic storytelling, but I strongly disagree," said the 61-year-old to the "Augsburger Allgemeinen" (Saturday).

"Not every film has to be shown on a big screen," emphasized Fincher, adding that he feels "no nostalgia whatsoever."

On good screens, streaming services can offer the audience better quality than many cinemas. "When it comes to image resolution, Netflix is ahead," said Fincher, who helped the streaming service to break through ten years ago as the producer of the series "House of Cards."

"I am extremely quality-conscious, and that's why I want the color shades of my images to be exact," explained the director, whose successes include films like "Seven" and "Fight Club." However, there are fewer than 20 screens in the US that meet his criteria, complained Fincher.
